Abby in LALA Land

  • Tonight is the season premier of “Jonas L.A.” and the start of a promising career for model and actress Abby Pivaronas. You can catch her this season on "Jonas L.A." playing a movie star and Joe Jonas's new girlfriend. Next month her A&E drama "The Glades" will premiere on July 13th. Abby is no newcomer when it comes to television, she's starred in episodes of "Gossip Girl," "Privileged," “Monk,” "Lincoln Heights," and a Disney Channel original movie "Mostly Ghostly."
  • I met Abby last summer when I assisted a photoshoot with her and photographer Angelo Kritikos. After that, I constantly would see Abby modeling on ShopBop.com or see paparazzi pictures of her with Joe Jonas. Abby and I kept in touch and she was kind enough to do an exclusive interview with me!
  • Megan: How did you start modeling?
  • Abby Pivaronas: I started modeling with Elite Model Management (now Factor Women) in Chicago when I was 14. Before getting signed, I spent a good portion of my childhood writing letters to Tommy Hilfiger, the editors of magazines, and various designers. I would write to them saying I was a straight A student, an athlete, and a First Friend and would be a great representation of their company. I'd then enclose a couple photographs I would take with my girlfriends, and send them off all around the world. This was a secret from my mom because she did not want me to model at all. Whenever someone would suggest I model, or tell me I was pretty, her standard response was “and she’s really nice too.” Eventually she caught onto what I was doing when return envelopes swamped our mailbox. One day I caught my mom in a weak moment and she agreed to drive me to the agency I knew I had to be with, Elite Model Management in Chicago. I went to the open call and signed that day. My mom has grown to become my BIGGEST supporter, and BIGGEST fan!
  • Megan: From modeling, how did you branch into acting?
  • Abby Pivaronas: I was introduced to acting by my agents at Elite. They set me up with the on-camera division. I met with a private acting coach in Chicago, and I remember walking out of the building after my first lesson feeling as though I was walking on clouds. I had an acting high, and that was when I knew I had to become an actress.
  • I finished high school a year early so I could model and pursue acting. I spent some time in Miami, and then headed overseas for a few months doing print and runway. As soon as I landed back in the States, I made plans to move to L.A. when I was 18. I met my agent out in L.A. through Stewart Talent in Chicago, packed my bags, and headed west!
  • You can watch Abby tonight for the premiere of “Jonas L.A.” at 830/730c on the Disney Channel.

This photoshoot was inspired by tourists, always photographing themselves near monuments. The whole concept was to overpower the large monuments through movement.
